BSN to DNP - Gerontological Nurse Practitioner - Gerontology

The Gerontological Nurse Practitioner program provides emphasis on holistic care to meet the medical, psychosocial, and functional needs of older people. GNPs provide collaborative care in a number of practice environments including nursing facilities, long term care, hospitals, home health agencies, specialty clinics and hospice care.

This program prepares the GNP at the DNP level and prepares the graduate to be eligible for the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) national certification. Core concepts within this program of study include emphasis on neuropsychopathology, psychopharmacology, elder health promotion and disease prevention, diagnostic acute and chronic diseases and advancement mental health assessment.

Modality

The Post-Masters to DNP program is delivered using a blend of: three, 2-4 day immersion sessions at the Irvine campus; internships/clinical practice in hospitals, clinics and health centers near your home or work; and online lectures, demonstrations and exercises.

Additional Entry Option

The Post Master's to DNP program is also available for the registered nurse who currently holds a Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN):

1. and is not an advanced practice nurse but who wants to move into advanced practice in one of five offered specialties;

OR

2. is an advanced practice nurse who wants to add one of Brandman's five offered specialties.

These students may apply under Brandman's BSN to DNP program and will be admitted once a year into the Spring 1 (January) term. An individual program of study will be designed after admission and upon review of transcripts to allow the maximum number of credits to transfer from the Master of Science degree.
