The continuing emphasis on educational quality and accountability has created a high demand for educators with specialized skills in curriculum and instruction. This EdS specialization helps you develop and demonstrate the research-based knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to create and implement instructional improvement initiatives and increase student achievement. Designed around national teaching and licensure standards, this specialization is intended for educators and administrators who have completed a master's degree and want to gain additional knowledge and increase their career options. As part of Capella's Professional Education Unit, this specialization is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). People who choose this specialization are often licensed teachers or administrators interested in pursuing building or district leadership positions in the field of curriculum and instruction, or in continuing their studies at the doctoral level. (Equivalent course work taken as part of the EdS program may count toward a Capella PhD degree.)

The residential colloquia experience: As an EdS learner, you will attend two five-day residential colloquia at specific stages in your program, in addition to your online courses. These energizing residencies provide you with insights and knowledge that will be valuable during your doctoral studies and beyond.
