Associate of Science in Renewable Energy

Offered By: Carrington College California - online

Renewable energy sources are in high demand as our world faces a scarcity of natural resources and environmental challenges created by climate change and human activities. This associate degree is designed to prepare individuals for careers in the growing field of renewable energy. This degree includes coursework in liberal studies along with economic, social and technical studies related to energy consumption and the environment. Graduates are prepared for entry level careers in the areas of wind and solar energy, bio-fuels or in regulatory or governmental agencies.

The program includes courses such as:

Contemporary Issues in Environmental Health: This course will explore the impact of the environment on the health of populations. Scientific methods of inquiry will be used to examine and understand environmental problems such as pollution of air and water as they affect public and individual health across the lifespan and on a global perspective.

Environmental Law: In a case study approach students will explore regulations and laws that govern the environment and the preservation of natural resources. Topics will include protection of land, air quality regulation, water purification standards, and public safety standards that relate to environmental impact control.

Sustaining the Environment and Natural Resources: This course will introduce the student to a variety of strategies that can be employed on a national and worldwide basis to protect the water, air, land and atmosphere from toxins and pollutants. Students compare the efficacy of these strategies and identify barriers to their successful implementation globally.

Capstone in Renewable Energy: This capstone course will allow students to synthesize their knowledge of liberal studies, science and renewable energy to design and implement a project related to environmental improvement or use of renewable energy in a given environment.
