Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

Offered By: Saint Leo University

The Sociology program at Saint Leo trains students to study social behavior, society as a human construction, and the individual-society relationship. Students majoring in sociology gain analytical skills – theoretical and applied – that enable them to investigate the groups and social institutions people form, and the ways in which the individual is shaped by this social environment.

The coursework focuses on contemporary social issues and dominant institutions of social life such as race, gender, health, education, media, the family, and religion, but also on the acquisition of research skills and a theoretical foundation in the discipline. Specialty courses cover such areas as health and medicine, social change and globalization, social inequality, racial and ethnic relations, deviance, and social interaction.
