The Clinical Medical Assisting program at SJVC program provides specialized training for employment in medical offices and medical specialty clinics. The curriculum includes theory and practical applications in clinical medical procedures. Topics and applications in the following subjects are included in this program: human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical clinical procedures such as vital signs, injections, venipuncture and electrocardiograms, health histories, patient care, instrument set-ups, instrument sterilization and emergency procedures.

Earn your Certificate in just 8 months and go on to finish your Associate of Science Degree in Clinical Medical Assisting. The first academic year focuses on the specific career skills you'll need to work in a doctor's office. The second academic year provides general education courses tailored to your chosen career field, giving you a competitive edge in the job market.

You will learn and gain skills in: medical terminology, pharmacology, emergency procedures, computers skills & concepts, medical laws & ethics, HIPAA compliance and regulations, venipuncture theory, patient charting, and vital signs theory. Well trained clinical medical assistants are in demand in private practice medical settings, clinics, laboratories and hospitals. You can expect to qualify for a variety of positions such as: medical assistant, lab assistant, EKG assistant, medical secretary, and occupational health assistant.

Graduates earn a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam, offered by American Medical Technologists/Allied Health (AMT), and the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exam, offered by the National Center for Competency testing (NCCT). Graduates also earn Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Certification, CPR and First Aid Certification.
