Professional education in accounting can help students develop the capabilities needed to assume positions of leadership and responsibility in accounting-related fields. Accounting processes are found in every business and industry, including government, education, health care, not-for-profit, and military organizations. Entry-level accountants are key players in the financial information arena of all organizations. They provide much of the information used by these organizations to make decisions that will help them attain their goals.

Colorado Technical University's Associate of Science in Accounting degree program is designed to equip students with a variety of basic accounting skills that are useful in entry-level accounting positions. Students can develop a base of practical, real-world skills from instructors who are accounting professionals. Building on a foundation of communication, interpersonal and math skills, they can learn all aspects of the accounting cycle, including analyzing and interpreting various financial statements. Courses in business and managerial accounting give students the tools for making basic decisions in organizations.

ASACC Degree Program Objectives

Students who successfully complete the ASACC degree program should be able to:

  • Describe the various forms of businesses and the environment in which businesses operate. Apply professional communication skills.
  • Develop personal financial goals and a personal budget.
  • Explain the basic accounting concepts.
  • Discuss the roles of managers and leaders in organizations.
  • Describe the accounting concepts underlying the financial reporting model.
  • Prepare financial statements for various business needs.
  • Use the tools of economics for decision making for the firm operating in the market economy.
