The Master of Science in Information Technology with a specialization in Data Management Technology is designed for students with a desire to develop professional skills in the main functional area of data management and related data management technologies. Organizations need skilled professionals who can manage high-performance database systems, design and implement data repositories for multiple formats and develop policies and procedures to protect and preserve the data.

What You Will Study:

Specialization coursework in this program focuses on a number of substantive areas applicable to the area of data management technology. Course content has been designed to help students identify, evaluate and integrate innovative data management technologies to ensure the organization's competitiveness. For example:

  • In Data Warehouse, students conduct an in-depth study of data warehouses and data marts by exploring specific techniques for conceptual, logical and physical design of data warehouses.
  • In Database Systems, students use real-life case studies to investigate concepts such as the design process, database objects, object hierarchy, data types, normalization of data, keys, indexes and referential integrity.

Other specialization courses in the MSIT/Data Management Technology program include:

  • Data and Applications Security
  • Business Intelligence Systems & Methods
  • Advanced Research & Study in Data Management

In addition to the core and specialization courses, students in this program select 4 credit hours from advanced level business, computer science or information technology courses. Successful completion of the MSIT program with a specialization in Data Management Technology will provide students with an applicable foundation of business-related knowledge and skills.
