The mission of the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University is to advance the art of music by preparing students for productive musical careers, broadening intellectual perspectives, fostering artistic, humanitarian and ethical values, and promoting the goal of responsible citizenship through professional and vocational study. Through discovering, integrating, and applying knowledge in a comprehensive and diverse range of bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs, the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music provides a dynamic learning environment that fosters artists, scholars and teachers who will assume leadership roles in a global society.
The Master of Music in Music Education degree is the professional standard required in public school teaching. This degree program fulfills the advanced educational requirement beyond licensure in the State of Ohio. It also provides potential key career outcomes such as:
•Renewal of teaching certificates or licensure
•Higher level of teaching certificate or licensure
•Promotion in current position or to a new position
•Preparation for doctoral programs
Teachers who wish to complete the Master of Music in Music Education program must first meet the following Kent State University requirements for admission, evidence of graduation in good standing from an accredited Bachelor of Music degree in music education program. A minimum music GPA of 3.0 and at least a 2.77 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for overall college coursework; and current teaching licensure or teacher certification in at least one state.
