The Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum & Instruction is a unique blend of the well-known UNK Special Education and Reading programs designed for teachers. This innovative and creative educational program will provide you with the skills and knowledge to work with struggling readers and students with exceptionalities. This 36 credit hour degree is designed for K-6 classroom teachers, as well as Special Education and Reading teachers. Any educator who is interested in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and methodology to diagnose and facilitate instructional strategies for students would benefit from this program. This may include classroom teachers, resource teachers, reading specialists or school administrators. This program does not complete requirements for endorsements in Reading or Special Education. All coursework is offered online including the Practicum which will be completed in a school system at a location near you. Because this is offered in a cohort format, students will complete the program with peers and colleagues who have similar career goals. The 24-month program begins in August 2011 with a completion date of December 2013. Comprehensive exams will be completed during the final semester of the program. Students pursuing certification in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certification requirements.

The University of Nebraska at Kearney offers affordable tuition to out-of-state online students. For 2010-11, nonresident graduate online tuition is $356.00 per credit hour; resident graduate tuition is $218.00 per credit hour (fees are additional).
